Are humans inherently good or evil? Nature or nurture?

This topic is a really important discussion when it comes to true-crime stories. You might want to ask, "why?" "What is the connection of this to serial killers and murderers?". Let me tell you how it might be a controversial issue in a true-crime story.

This might become a position paper but I believe that humans are born to be neutral when it comes to being good or bad. How people take the course of their life depends on how they were taught when they were children.

Parents really have a huge role in how their children associate themselves with society and it can also be said that they can control the trajectory of their children's life at least once in their life. A child with a mother that is a doctor and a father that is an engineer has a larger chance of choosing one of these professions in the future than any other profession.

Of course, there are also some outside influences that can affect the profession of your children such as the environment and their school but the first ones to influence them are always their parents. That is why traumas brought by your own parents are really hard to cure and almost impossible to grow out from.

According to Aneysworth (1999), 42% of convicted serial killers suffered physical abuse and 74% suffered from psychological abuse - both when they were children. Now, I'm not saying that childhood traumas can only be found in their house but children spent mostly their time in their own home.

Therefore, I believe that humans act based on how they were nurtured when they were young. What the children see is what they will do in the future.
